PeerNear is a system providing the capability for any peer-2-peer-network, to improve its net-topological locality.

The algorithm schedules Traceroutes between the peers to find out, what's the internet-structure between them. So to speak, they should find their "Inner Net".

If they do so, they know which distance they have to each other, and so they can choose their next neighbours for building connections, which is always a big topic in peer-2-peer-networks.

The Test-Applet found on this page simulates a peer, so you can connect to the Client-Server-Structure of PeerNear. If another peer joins in and he's in another network, PeerNear will schedule Traceroutes from some other peers to find out, where to locate him exactly.

If you enter a specific radius at the applet, you will see all peers, that are in this radius around you, sorted by their distance to you.

The graph that was found out up to now on this page, is always updated. The nodes in that graph are the registered IP-Ranges at several IP-Registrars such as RIPE, ARIN, APNIC, etc.
If you click on the graph-nodes, you will see further informations.

So have fun with PeerNear and please contact us, if you have further questions!
